Essential Oils and First Aid / Emergency Kit

Helping people in first aid circumstances is serious business and one should know their capabilities as they get involved. Herbal and essential oils have been effectively treating people in these situations since there have been injuries to treat. One should wholeheartedly hone their skills, know how and when to ask for help and to take time to study with knowledgeable persons.

First aid situations have a habit of foisting themselves upon us at unpredictable moments and so you may find yourself involved, no matter what your skill level may be. So seek opportunities to learn this eons-old craft whenever possible. The service of being a calm, sensible, knowledgeable person in often chaotic and painful situations is a gift to offer to our communities.

Every home should have three fully stocked first aid kits: one each in the kitchen, bathroom, and car. In the event of an emergency, having all the items you need close at hand can make a big difference.

Here is a basic list of Young Living essential oils and products we enjoy in our First Aid Kits

  • Trauma Life blend (soothing to emotions after a traumatic experience)
  • Peppermint (helpful for digestion, sore muscles, headache discomfort, alertness, fever, dizziness) (Note: not open wounds)
  • Thieves essential oil blend (antibacterial properties for wound cleaning, airborne bacteria, stings, bites)
  • Lavender (minor wounds, burns, cleansing properties, helps speed wound healing, calming, Poison Ivy/Oak, insomnia)
  • Melrose blend (antimicrobial, antiseptic, nail / foot fungus, cuts, burns, rashes, bruises, inflammation)
  • Lemon (antiseptic properties, purifying water) (do not use on skin exposed to sunlight, photosensitivity)
  • PanAway blend (helpful for sore/achy muscles, headache discomforts, bug bites)
  • R.C. blend (respiratory, staph / MRSA) (use with Raven for more powerful respiratory support)
  • Geranium (w/compress to reduce bleeding, bruising, astringent, inflammation, sinus head discomfort, antispasmodic, skin conditions, circulation, uplifting mood)
  • Palo Santo (sore muscles, insect repellant)
  • Gentle Baby blend (soothing, calming for wee-one's to inhale, stress)

All of the above essential oils can be used topically with a carrier oil (V-6), apply to area of discomfort, on soles of feet for general wellness, inhaled for emotional relief.

See Pets and Essential Oils to learn which oils and products are good for your Pet First Aid Kit.

And, every Natural First Aid Kit should contain these staples:

  • 1 bottle of Young Living V-6 (carrier oil for diluting essential oils)
  • 1 jar of AnimalScents Ointment (yes, it is for people too and is excellent!)
  • Thieves Waterless Hand Sanitizer (a dab can also be used as a deodorant)
  • Thieves Bar Soap
  • Thieves Ultra Toothpaste (a dab can also be used as a deodorant)
  • LavaDerm Spray (skin issues)
  • Thieves Spray (spray for skin wounds, and sanitizing surfaces)

My Household Tip

Don't Like Drinking Water?

We're told we should drink half our body weight in ounces daily. I don't know about you but I'm not crazy about the taste of plain water.

Try adding a drop of Lemon Essential Oil to your glass of water. It offsets the bland taste of regular water. The taste of lemon oil is simply divine.

When our foster son first came to live with us it was difficult to get him to drink water. We tried lemon oil and it's helped immensely.

My First Aid Tip

Lavender Oil for Boils

Not long back I noticed I had a large boil on the back of my leg. I put a dab of lavender oil on it that evening before I went to bed. When I woke up the next morning it had improved more than 50%. The following day it was completely gone!

My Immune System Tip

Cold Congestion

Place a drop of Peppermint oil on the tongue and inhale into the nose and sinuses to relieve congestion from a cold.
